Why Aren't Catholics Getting Married?
Tuesday Jun 22, 2021
Tuesday Jun 22, 2021
Did you know that in the USA there are a growing number of Catholics but a decrease in the number of Catholic marriages? In today’s episode, we talk about why this is a crucial mission moment for the Church, and how we can invite couples to bring Christ into their marriages. We also define terms such as “convalidation” and “civil marriage” and what it means to be in a “valid Catholic marriage”. Are you a couple who has gone through the convalidation and/or the annulment process and would like to share the fruit that has come from that experience? We would love to hear your story. Please email Deanna Johnston at djohnston@stphilipinstitute.org.

If You Die, Walk It Off
Wednesday Jun 02, 2021
Wednesday Jun 02, 2021
Motherhood can sometimes feel like jumping out of a plane with a bunch of tiny people who don't know how to open their chutes. so you end up deploying everyone’s chutes but yours. Then you hit the ground and just get up and make dinner.
How do we find the balance between dying to self and treating yourself? Where does “self-care” fit into “self-mortification”? In this episode, we talk about ways that we can clearly communicate our needs (particularly as Moms) and find ways of nurturing our own selves in body, mind, and spirit.

Slay Your Dragons
Wednesday May 12, 2021
Wednesday May 12, 2021
When striving to fulfill God’s call in our lives, the most formidable battles we face are often against ourselves: our personal vices & disordered attachments. To follow Christ, we must have the courage to slay our dragons! In today’s episode, we continue our conversation on the Marian Virtues and how two of them can equip us for battle as we encounter challenges in our vocation.
Show Notes:
“A woman by her very nature is maternal – for every woman, whether married or unmarried, is called upon to be a biological, psychological, or spiritual mother — she knows intuitively that to give, to nurture, to care for others, to suffer with and for them — for maternity implies suffering — is infinitely more valuable in God’s sight than to conquer nations and fly to the moon.”- Alice von Hildebrand

Patience and Motherhood… Can we do both well? How do we show the virtue of patience in a world that promotes instant gratification and on-demand living? In today’s episode, we begin our series on the Marian virtues by reflecting on Mary’s Heroic Patience and what this looks like in family life. Sometimes our lack of patience reflects our need to be in control. Practicing this virtue allows us to trust God, endure our trials, and persevere.
